CASTLE ROCK, Colo. — Folks across Colorado are putting together their Christmas wish lists, hoping to get something special from ole’ St. Nick this year. For a family in Castle Rock, there’s only one gift they want.

Kirstie Crawford and her little daughter Emma have been driving around Colorado in search of this gift. Well, they’re hoping someone will see the sign on their vehicle and contact them.

See, Kirstie and Emma want a new kidney for Jason. Jason is Kirstie’s husband and Emma’s father. Due to a failing kidney, he’s been on dialysis for 5 years.

“His creatine levels were the highest levels they’ve ever seen in the state,” Kirstie said. “They don’t know why his kidneys went into failure, they just know they did. More than likely uncontrolled high blood-pressure”.

Jason is currently on a kidney wait list. But that list is long. In Colorado, Kirstie said it takes 5-6 years to get a deceased person’s kidney.

“The longer he goes on dialysis the sicker he gets,” she said.

Jason is a fighter and he tries to keep his family’s hopes up. So in an effort to make light of a dark situation, he decided not to shave his beard until he gets a kidney. He hasn’t shaved in two full years.

“He is known even in town for that beard,” Kirstie said with a smile.

In the meantime, the family continues to drive around with a magnetic sign that reads, ‘My Daddy Jason Needs a Kidney!’ with the number 720-848-0855.

“There was a guy in Denver who did it on the back of his truck and he was successful and that’s where we got the idea,” Kirstie said.
