WESTMINSTER, Colo. — Tanya Lillie finally has a vehicle again thanks to the generosity of FOX31 viewers and 3 Zero 3 Towing.
The Denver towing company donated a free vehicle to the Lillie family after hearing about their plight in a Problem Solvers story.
The Lillie’s 1990 Honda Civic was stolen in April.
The family found the car a couple of days later, but the Westminster Police Department asked them to hold off retrieving it so investigators could do a surveillance and catch the thief.
But police got into a shootout with the suspect, killed him in the Lillie’s car and the vehicle was destroyed with nearly 50 rounds fired into it.
The car was impounded all summer for the investigation. This week, Westminster police called the Lillies and told them they could get the car but they would have to pay hundreds of dollars in tow fees.
The family couldn’t afford that, let alone a new vehicle, and called Problem Solvers.
The city agreed to waive the tow fees and give the family a $2,500 insurance check. But the Lillies still needed a car.
On Friday, 3 Zero 3 Towing gave the family a free vehicle.
The Lillies said there are not words to express their gratitude. They plan to “pay it forward” by pushing to change policies so other victims do not have to pay to retrieve their own property.
