DENVER — Chipotle is hoping free food will win back customers scared off by last year’s contamination issues.

September launches a big promotional push by the food chain, offering freebies for the whole family.

Customers will receive a free kids meal with the purchase of any entree each Sunday throughout the month.

High school and college students with a valid ID get a fountain soft drink and iced tea with the purchase of any in-store entree.

Chipotle will continue the summer happy hour promotion throughout September. From 4-8 p.m. adults 21 and older with a valid idea can score one free beer or margarita per day.

The latest batch of giveaways aims to speed up the company’s sales recovery. The Denver-based chain reports diluted earnings of 87 cents per share — a total significantly lower than analysts’ expectations.
