Hillary Clinton will appear with Tim Kaine At an event Saturday.
We did recently sit down with the Senator from Virginia during a stop he made recently in Denver. At that time he passed the first test of being a successful vice president–speaking highly of the boss.
“Hillary Clinton is head and shoulders, no close second, head and shoulders best qualified to be president of the United States,” he said.
Kaine was born in Minnesota, grew up in Kansas city … went to Harvard law before becoming a mayor and then governor of Virginia. He’s been that state’s Senator since 2012.
One of his biggest strengths may be that he’s a fluent Spanish speaker.
“We are seeing it in Colorado and in Virginia too. There is a lot of voter power in the Hispanic community. Here in Colorado it is 20-21 percent of the electorate which is huge,” Kaine said.
While our conversation happened with him before it was official, political reporter Joe St. George did ask what it was like to be considered. “How does that feel? well my mom likes it and shes 81. My mom doesn’t mind. I went through it in 2008. It’s probably not much about me–Virginia is a battleground state.”
Colorado Democrats said Sen. Kaine’s selection shores up Clinton’s economic record. “He is an individual who has an incredible reputation of advancing the issues that people in his district care about,” Colorado State Representative Crisanta Duran said.
