SAWPIT, Colo. — Sheriff’s deputies evacuated people out of dozens of vehicles on Highway 145 in southwest Colorado on Wednesday, the San Miguel Sheriff’s Office said.

The eight-mile stretch of road where several mudslides happened was between Sawpit and Placerville, west of Telluride.

The highway reopened Wednesday night but the Colorado Department of Transportation is expected to be on the scene Thursday for what the sheriff’s office said would be “extensive” cleanup.
