AURORA, Colo. — An Aurora man who admitted head-butting his 2-month-old son has been sentenced to 26 years in prison for infant’s death.

Martin Holguin Jr., 25, was charged with child abuse resulting in death.

Holquin’s 2 month-old son, Aiden, suffered severe head trauma in September 2013, according to physicians at Colorado Children’s Hospital. Aiden’s skull was fractured and his brain hemorrhaged.

The child’s mother was at work and Holquin was caring for the baby at a home on North Hanover Street, the district attorney’s office stated.

“Holguin gave several versions of how Aiden was injured to police, saying he became stressed by his son’s crying and ‘head-butted’ his son,” prosecutors said Thursday.

“When an innocent 2-month-old baby is killed it is heartbreaking and difficult to comprehend,” Adams County District Attorney Dave Young said. “Aiden had his whole life ahead of him and now we will never know what potential he held and what he would have become. These cases are the most sad and tragic cases that we prosecute.”

Holguin said he did not intend to hurt his son, according to his arrest affidavit.
