BOULDER, Colo. — A bicyclist was fatally hit by a vehicle on Saturday night and the driver fled the scene, the Colorado State Patrol said.
The collision happened about 5:15 p.m. at 30th Street and Jay Road. Troopers later arrested the driver, 24-year-old Callie Kuhasz, at 11th and Spruce streets, about four miles away.
The bicyclist was identified as 35-year-old William Davis of Boulder. Witnesses tried to save Davis’ life by giving him CPR, but they were unsuccessful.
The State Patrol said two bicyclists were going westbound on 30th Street when a 2015 Dodge Durango entered the bike lane and struck Davis.
A nearby resident said the impact was so loud that it woke him. He said he heard a loud bang followed by screaming.
The State Patrol was investigating whether alcohol and speed were involved.
A GoFundMe page has been set up to help the financial burden of Davis’ family, which includes his wife of 12 years and three children.
