LAKEWOOD, Colo. — It’s the “Super Bowl” for high school athletes: Making it to the state track and field meet.

For one teen from Castle Rock, the state track and field championships were even more than that.

A year and a half ago, Morgan Adsit didn’t think her father would be alive to see her compete in the state pole vault competition.

Denver police Officer John Adsit was hit and nearly killed by an out-of-control driver while he was protecting teenagers on a protest march near East High School in December 2014.

He has made a miraculous recovery and was on hand for his daughter’s state competition.
