ERIE, Colo. — A man was arrested Saturday, accused of drag racing  in the northbound lanes of Interstate 25 with improperly restrained children, including a baby, the Weld County Sheriff’s Office said Tuesday.

A deputy saw a red 2015 Ford Mustang and another vehicle “engaged in what appeared to be a speed contest” about 9:15 p.m. Saturday near mile marker 232, the sheriff’s office said. The vehicles were going faster than 120 mph.

Two of the four passengers in the vehicle were a 7-month-old in a forward-facing car seat and an unrestrained 5-year-old, the sheriff’s office said.

The driver, 26-year-old Jarrod Andrews, was arrested and charged with two counts of child abuse, four counts of reckless endangerment and multiple traffic violations. Andrews also faces charges of failing to use child restraints.
