ELDORADO CANYON STATE PARK, Colo. — A climber was injured after he fell about 70 feet while climbing at Eldorado Canyon State Park on Saturday morning, the Boulder County Sheriff’s Office said.

Boulder County dispatchers received a 911 call about 10:40 a.m. that a man climbing on the Anthill Direct route fell. The man was identified as 24-year-old Jamie Shaw, the sheriff’s office said.

The sheriff’s office said Shaw was climbing with a friend who didn’t witness the fall but heard Shaw yelling for help as he was falling and saw him hit the rock face.

Rescuers from Rocky Mountain Fire Protection District and Rocky Mountain Rescue group responded to the scene. Shaw was conscious, alert and talking with rescuers throughout the rescue, the sheriff’s office said.

Shaw suffered a “significant injury to his lower right leg” as well as cuts and abrasions on his body. He was wearing a helmet and had been using climbing ropes and a safety harness.

Shaw was taken to Eldorado Springs, then flown to Denver Health Medical Center for further treatment.
