COMMERCE CITY, Colo. – The mother of a Commerce City 6th grader is furious with the administration at Victory Preparatory Academy after a lengthy discussion about bullying.

Tana Gallegos said she wanted to talk with the school’s CEO about her daughter being bullied, but after she brought it up she said the CEO started to bully her.

“He was just really aggressive and he really intimidated me,” Gallegos said.

The conversation between the two was recorded on Gallegos’ cell phone camera. You can only hear the audio.

In it, Gallegos said the tone of the school’s CEO, Ron Jajdelski, comes across as disrespectful and aggressive.

JAJDELSKI: If she’s in that much danger, this is not a healthy environment.
GALLEGOS: Okay. So fix it.
JAJDELSKI: Well, no.
GALLEGOS: FIX IT!
JAJDELSKI: I feel like you should take her to a different school.
GALLEGOS: Why should I have to take her to a better school?

Over the phone, Jajdelski told FOX31 his tone was based off of his belief Gallegos was trying to intimidate his staff and bully his school.

“I didn’t bully him. I said how would you feel if I just kept coming every day and asked you about my kid?” Gallegos responded.

In the beginning of the school year, Gallegos said she reached out to the school after her daughter had been bullied. The school said it looked into the matter and hadn’t received another complaint from Gallegos or her daughter until recently.

Gallegos’ daughter Arianna said she was too nervous to report anything to her mother or to the school administration.

Gallegos went to the school last week to have the issue dealt with, but instead, ended up in an argument with Jajdelski.

JAJDELSKI: I’m going to be honest. If this stuff was happening to my kid for 18 weeks, I wouldn’t leave her here.
GALLEGOS: I assumed you guys would protect her or something.
JAJDELSKI: Well, we didn’t know anything about it.

Jajdelski said he and his school do not tolerate bullying one bit. And if a student is caught bullying someone, they’re dealt with immediately.

He said had Gallegos or her daughter filed the proper paperwork, the issue would have been dealt with swiftly.

For Gallegos, it’s more than just the issue of her daughter being bullied now. She feels administrators and educators should never talk to a parent the way Jajdelski did – especially if the parent is trying to discuss an issue as important as bullying.

“Everyone has their own opportunity for opinion,” Jajdelski said over the phone to FOX31 Denver.

Jajdelski offered to have Gallegos’ daughter put on a ‘safety tracker’ at the school – which includes the student spending the day with a teacher to make sure they’re safe.

Gallegos declined and withdrew her daughter from Victory Prep on Monday.

Since then, Gallegos said she’s heard from other parents and students who’ve had similar issues with the charter school.

Gallegos’ video conversation with Jajdelski was posted to Facebook and has since gone viral.
