WAILEA, Hawaii — Colorado Rockies shortstop Jose Reyes was arrested in Hawaii on Halloween and faces domestic abuse charges after an altercation with his wife, Hawaii News Now reported.

The veteran infielder was acquired in August in the trade that sent Troy Tulowitzki to the Toronto Blue Jays.

Reyes and his wife Katherine were allegedly arguing in their room at the Four Seasons Resort Maui, Hawaii News Now reported. Katherine Reyes told police that Reyes grabbed her off the bed and shoved her.

Sources told Hawaii News Now that Katherine Reyes told police that Jose Reyes grabbed her throat and shoved her into the sliding glass balcony door. Jose Reyes is out on bail.

Katherine Reyes was taken to a medical center to be treated for thigh, neck and wrist injuries, Hawaii News Now reported.

“We were extremely disappointed and concerned to learn of the allegations involving Jose Reyes,” the Rockies said in a statement. “We continue to gather information and will address this matter appropriately, in accordance with Major League Baseball’s Joint Domestic Violence, Sexual Assault and Child Abuse Policy.”

In a statement, Major League Baseball said: “As evidenced by our Joint Domestic Violence Policy, Major League Baseball understands the seriousness of the issues surrounding domestic violence, and our Police explicitly recognizes the harm resulting from such acts. Consistent with the terms of this Policy, the Commissioner’s Office already has begun its investigation into the facts and circumstances. Any action taken by the Commissioner’s Office in this matter will be wholly in accordance with this Policy.”

Reyes will be entering the fifth year of a six-year, $106 million contract next season.
