DENVER — Forgotten Valley is in the heart of Golden Gate Canyon State Park.  It’s an ultra family friendly hike to an old Swedish-American homestead.  Take along a picnic.  Enjoy a little time in one of the porch swings.  There’s trout in the pond so take along your fishing gear too.

If you take the Burro Trail to Mountain Lion Trail route to Forgotten Valley it is 1.3 miles, for a round trip hike of 2.6 miles.  The City Lights Ridge adds an additional mile to the hike.  It’s steeper but worth the effort for the views.

Four generations of Swedish-Americans lived at the homestead.  In 1995 the Tallman Ranch was added to the State Register of Historic Properties.

A daily park pass for Golden Gate Canyon State Park is $7.  There are over 35 miles of hiking trails in the park.  The twelve trails in GoldenGate Canyon are named after an animal and marked with the animal’s footprint.
