AURORA, Colo. — A 48-year-old Aurora man, who is a registered sex offender and is also HIV positive, has been arrested and charged in a child sex trafficking case, the Aurora Police Department said Monday.

Sean Crumpler faces four counts of pattern child sexual assault by one in a position of trust, three counts of sexual contact with a child through coercion, two counts of trafficking for sexual servitude of a minor, two counts of contributing to the delinquency of a minor and one count of sexual offense with notice of HIV.

An affidavit for an arrest warrant was issued Sept. 10. Crumpler appeared in Arapahoe District Court on Monday and bail was set at $100,000. Crumpler bonded out of jail on Tuesday.

The affidavit alleges Crumpler lured the teenage boys in California to Colorado using the dating app Grindr to live with him in a large home he rents in the 23900 block of East Hindsdale Place.

Investigators believe a dozen males ages 16 to 21 were living in the house with Crumpler. The males would “earn” housing and food through “sex,” the affidavit alleges.

One of the 16-year-olds was reported missing in California earlier this year. He contacted his family by text message to request his Social Security number and birth certificate so he could get emancipated and travel to Canada.

A Long Beach, Calif., detective traced the number from the text to Crumpler’s home.

According to the affidavit, the 16-year-old was introduced to Crumpler by two friends — 19-year-old Ricardo “Ricky” Barron and 20-year-old Coddie Jesus Favela — he began traveling with in May.

The three met with Crumpler at a Long Beach hotel and had sex. Crumpler bought gas cards to be used to drive from California to Colorado.

Crumpler told the 16-year-old: “This is what I like to call hunting,” the affidavit read. To “find young boys to bring back to the house.” Favela, Barron and the 16-year-old then drove from California and arrived in Aurora on May 20.

Crumpler was convicted of a sex crime in California in January 2004 in California. He registered as a sex offender in Colorado in March this year.
