KANSAS CITY, MO. — Westboro Baptist Church protesters targeted a Foo Fighters concert at the Sprint Center in Kansas City, Mo. on Friday, but the band rose the challenge with a “rick roll.”
The band arrived at the location of their concert via a pickup truck, blasting Rick Astley’s 1987 single “Never Gonna Give You Up,” famous for being used in “rick roll” pranks to fool others into watching the music video. Band members stood on the bed of the truck, holding up signs that read “You Got Rick Roll’d Again” and “Keep It Clean.”
Dave Grohl clapped along to the song as fans cheered.

This is the second time the Foo Fighters have trolled Westboro picketers at one of their shows in Kansas City. In Sept. 2011, the band uploaded a video of themselves rolling in on a flatbed truck, singing one of their songs called “Keep it Clean” with lyrics like “Think I’m in the mood for some hot-man muffins” in front of Westboro protesters outside their show.
During that performance, Grohl gave a speech: “God bless America! It takes all kinds. I don’t care if you’re black or white or purple or green, whether you’re Pennsylvanian or Transylvanian, Lady Gaga or Lady Antebellum, men loving women and women loving men and men loving men and women loving women — you all know we like to watch that. But what I’d like to say is, God bless America, y’all!”
