DENVER — United Airlines will be consolidating its Flight Training Center to be in Denver, the airline announced Wednesday.

The United facility in Denver, located at East 35th Avenue and Quebec Street in Stapleton, will be responsible for training every pilot flying for United Airlines no later than the end of 2017.

United currently operates two training centers – the one in Denver and one in Houston. To consolidate these, United considered renovating one of the two centers, or building another one in Chicago.

“We will extensively renovate the existing Denver facility to house a premier center that will support our training needs now and into the future,” United Senior Vice President of Flight Operations Howard Attarian wrote in an internal memo.

Ultimately, the airline chose to expand the Denver facility because it was the most cost-effective option, the fastest option and the option that minimizes disruption to operations, Attarian said.

Operations will continue at the Houston Training Center during the transition period. United expects to be fully consolidated by the end of 2017, with some staff and equipment moves from Houston to Denver anticipated as early as the end of 2015.
