DENVER — Denver Fire told FOX31 Denver that an elevator was reportedly smoking in a 43-story building at 1999 Broadway  Wednesday evening.

The Fire Department initially responded to a call about an elevator motor fire. There was smoke in the building which is home to some IRS offices as well as other businesses.

A second alarm was called for manpower to help evacuate people from the building via stairs.

While fire crews conducted the investigation, fire trucks blocked D-line light rail tracks. RTD set up a bus shuttle for their passengers.

Once the trucks moved, RTD restored normal light rail service.

Xcel Energy crews said a power line into the skyscraper failed and that’s what sent smoke into the building.

There were no injuries.
