DENVER — A protest is expected Wednesday in downtown Denver before a public hearing over proposed RTD rate hikes.

A group called “9-5” is organizing the protest. During the past couple of years, RTD has put together a fare study that would raise prices for light rail and buses about 15 percent across the board.

During the past month, from Longmont to Parker, RTD has hosted a series of public hearings with riders to try to develop a “fair, equitable and cost-effective far structure.”

The protest is expected at 16th and Blake streets at 5:15 p.m. in advance of the public hearing at 6:30 p.m.
