AURORA, Colo. — The city of Aurora wants to buy you dinner. All you have to do is report the largest pothole that you see.
It’s Aurora’s way of getting motorists to help the city find the tire busters.
This pothole contest will put food on your table. “We reward a pothole that is called in that’s the largest for the month and obviously the first one that’s called in depending how large they are,” said Kim Quante of Aurora Public Works Operations.
The winner gets a $50 gift card to a restaurant in Aurora.
“The people that are filling the potholes actually do measure the length and width and the depth of them,” Quante said.
It’s serious business. Potholes can seriously damage your car.
“You could potentially pop a tire, bend the rim, we have steering and suspension components that are kind of fragile in here that can actually break as well,” said Micah Thomas, manager of a Midas store in Aurora. And the cost of those repairs? “Anywhere from about $50 … could be anywhere around a thousand or so,” Thomas said.
So when you find yourself driving in Aurora, set down the smartphone, keep your eyes peeled and turn that next pothole into a pot roast dinner.
Report your pothole by sending an email to streets@auroragov.org or calling 303-326-8200. See Pothole of the Month contest rules here.
