LONGMONT, Colo. — The community is coming together to bring hope to a woman whose baby was cut out of her womb Wednesday.

The White Heart Project encourages people to decorate a white heart for Michelle Wilkins, 26, who lost her 7-month old baby in a brutal attack.

She’s now recovering at Longmont United Hospital.

“We’re opening the gallery to the public, to bring everyone together,” said Morgan Fox, mother to a 6-month old baby girl and an employee of Rembrandt Yard Art Gallery.

These are hearts that strangers will give Michelle Wilkins.

They are hearts to help heal her broken one.

“I just want to send her and her baby so much love, because I don’t know how anybody could move forward and have hope,” said Rembrandt employee Sara Mahle.

They hope to give her hope after a stranger cut Michelle’s 7-month old baby from her womb after she responded to a Craigslist ad for baby clothes.

“To have it end in such a nightmarish way, it’s unthinkable,” said Joanie Kindblade of Lousiville.

She and her husband drove to the Rembrandt gallery soley to send Michelle a message.

“I just want her to know we are all sad for her, and think about what she’s going through what she has gone through,” said Kindblade.

They are hearts filled with love, peace and hope for a woman whose motherhood was suddenly stolen from her.

“Every little thing that leads up to having a baby is so exciting. And she was probably ready to go home and fold those (clothes) and put them in the little girl’s dresser, get her nursery ready. Now, that doesn’t get to happen,” said Fox.

These are hearts that are heavy.

But they hope these paper hearts will fill Michelle’s with hope for a better tomorrow.

“The hope is she sees that (the hearts) and feels support and not a reminder of loss and tragedy,” said Alisha Bunker of Longmont, who will bring the hearts to Michelle at the hospital when her family says it is okay.
