DENVER — The Montbello Organizing Committee is hosting a forum with the Mayor’s Office of Economic Development and his honor the Mayor Monday evening, 6 p.m. at the United Church of Montbello.

“We want them to know that we know our neighborhood is being under served by full-service grocery stores,” said La Toya Petty. “We want people to come and ask city officials why they have done little to help us get a food store out here.”

Last summer, when Albertson’s and Safeway merged, they said there would be store closings in both chains. Under-performing stores would close to help cut costs.

Many close to deals that happen at Chambers Plaza on 51st & Chambers, say Pastor Leon Emerson was in talks with Save-a-Lot but the deal fell through. Now, some say Save-a-Lot will take half of the old Safeway store, renting the other half to U-Fit Work Out Center.
