Jennifer Broome takes us us snowshoeing on Saint Mary’s Glacier.

Saint Mary’s Glacier is one of the top destinations in Clear Creek County.  Technically the glacier is a large perennial snowfield, which means it is there year round.  A lot of folks visit the glacier in the summer, but it is a great snowshoe hike in winter, especially on a bluebird sky day with light winds.  Since the area is notorious for gusty winds, make sure you take layers.  If you are heading up to the top of the glacier, don’t forget the sunscreen since you will be fully exposed to the sun on the glacier.  Round trip to the base of the glacier at St. Mary’s Lake is 1.5 miles.  It is a great adventure for families.  If you hike to the top of the glacier, it is about 2.2 miles round trip.

There is a small parking lot near the trailhead.  It cost $5 for parking.
