DENVER — The nearly half-billion dollar Westin Hotel and RTD commuter rail project are racing to a Thanksgiving opening for the 519-room hotel and a 2016 opening for the rail line from Union Station.
“We are very much on track—no pun intended—for both openings,” said Stu Williams. “This hotel is going to be another jewel in Denver’s transportation crown.”
The train to DIA will actually dock just outside the Westin, following the 35-minute trip from the city’s multimodal hub at Union Station, leaving passengers at the entrance to the airport and hotel.
A couple of neat things about the hotel—which is shaped like a pilot wing:
- From the top floors you can see the top of the terminal roof, runways and the top of the rail line platform
- There is a huge covered, outdoor plaza which will host art and car shows … even concerts
- The workout room has a pool and hot tub
- To fit the correct number of rooms to turn a profit, the suites are on the edges of the building, which puts guests right over the highway.
As workers continue to push work along, the whole project is another feather in Denver’s cap, which will set DIA apart from any other skyport in the world!
