DENVER — One of the top local cannabis companies in Colorado is helping set standards in the industry that are being followed around the country. MMJ America was founded in 2008 by Dave Ross and Jake Salazar with a small grow in a storage garage. At the time, Salazar was set to go to law school but his partner was able to change his mind about the industry, just about the time medical legalization was voted in.
“We just thought the timing was right for a company like MMJ America,” said Ross. “Instead of running it like a corner ‘weed-store’ we set this up like a corporation … complete with CEO, someone in charge of grows, construction and expansion, along with a partner who would oversee the counter staff—budtenders—and those who put plants in the ground.”
The concept is working better than anyone could imagine. MMJ America is now working on creating profitable partnerships.
- Cannabis hotels
- Multistate licensing
- Opening several greenhouses to cut down on lighting costs
- Extraction company that processes cannabis others throw away into money-making oils for edible, soft drink and vapor products.
Because they were involved with legislation which governs how businesses operate in Colorado, they are consulting with lawmakers and legal minds around the nation. Everyone wants to do the cannabis business, the “Colorado way.”
“We know what went into developing the laws, tracking the plants, and making sure the industry is expanding the right way,” said Salazar. “Our goal is to make sure we are prepared for the long-haul in this industry.”
DENVER — With new shops, a 50,000 square foot greenhouse grow, one of the first multi-state license for a store in Las Vegas, and strategic business deals with other companies, MMJ America is a natural choice to be the presenting sponsor for the High Times Cannabis Cup Tour stop in Mile High, over the 4/20 weekend.
“We have won the Cannabis Cup in five different categories, the magazine and the public know the quality of our strains and the pride we take in growing our product,” said CEO Jake Salazar. “When our new greenhouse grows in Denver and Las Vegas go on-line, we will be changing the future of the industry.”
While picking up a new facility in Breckenridge, another one at Sheridan and I-70, the company has been re-tooling existing dispensaries just in time for the huge 4/20 celebration coming to Denver.
The three days of understanding will be held at the Merchandise Mart on 58th and I-25.
Doors will open on Saturday, April 18 … the show to run through Monday, which happens to be 4/20. 700 vendors will show off their best strains and this year the Cannabis Freedom Trail event will invite attendees to visit and sample products from participating pot shops, choose the best and vote on them Sunday. The most votes wins the People’s Cup.
While hosting the event, which also includes concerts with Snoop Dogg, Nas, 2 Chainz and others, at Fiddler’s Green and Red Rocks, MMJ America will also be displaying the top-pot in their 120 strain catalogue.
