The New England Patriots had 11 of their 12 allotted game footballs under-inflated by two pounds of air as required by NFL rules, according to an ESPN report late Tuesday night.

The report cited league sources for the information.

The investigation was a result of claims made in Sunday’s AFC Championship Game when the Patriots beat Indianapolis, 45-7, to advance to the Super Bowl.

The NFL wasn’t commenting on the report Tuesday night.

Yet to be determined is what, if any, penalties the Patriots could face.

The ESPN report said one source described the league as “disappointed … angry … distraught,” after spending considerable time on the findings earlier Tuesday.
