ROCHESTER, Mich. — Gage Garmo, a 17-year-old from Rochester, had been struggling with an aggressive form of bone cancer until he passed away Monday night.
His friends started a GoFundMe account for his family and with the help of social media the word of Gage spread to the Detroit media and beyond, according to WJBK.
The community raised enough buzz and made it possible for Gage’s favorite rapper, Eminem, to hear his story.
On Sunday, Eminem traveled to Michigan to talk with Gage about everything from music to football, WXMI reported.
Just one day later Gage lost his battle with cancer and his friends held a candle light vigil on the football field at his school in his memory, according to WXMI.
A fellow student says it was mind-blowing that the amount of power and effort the community put in, got Eminem’s attention. His peers and adults alike say that he had a huge impact in the community.
