DENVER — Make some holiday memories this year with these Homemade Hacks.

Mason Jar Snow globe

Materials needed:

• A mason jar
• Water
• Pure glycerin
• Glitter
• Waterproof craft glue or epoxy.  I used silicone glue.
• Small, waterproof toys or figurines to put inside your globe.  I tried resin figures, fake mini trees, and “Frozen” figures from the dollar store.  They all worked great!

Decide where you’d like to place your figurines on the mason jar lid. Make sure you are able to close your jar once they are in place. When you’re happy with the placement, glue in place to the inside of your lid (follow directions on glue).

While the lid is drying, pour about a tablespoon of glitter into your jar for the “snow.” You can add a little less or more depending on your personal taste or the size of your jar.

Pour water into the jar.  Your water line should not reach all the way to the brim.  Add 3-5 small drops of glycerin to the water to allow your “snow” to fall in a natural way when shaken.

Apply craft glue around the rim and threads of the jar to form a seal and close tightly.   Also glue the outside seam of the lid to help keep it watertight.

Shake and enjoy!

Homemade Snow

Kids bored inside, and it’s too cold to play outside?  Or, the snow has melted?  Make your own snow at home with just a few household ingredients. This recipe is from Essential Kids, but I also added corn starch and a little water for extra texture.

You’ll also need baking soda and shaving cream.  The amount depends on how much you’d like to make.

Step 1

Pour the baking soda into a large bowl.

Step 2

Squirt in your shaving cream (Just use the amount you need for the consistency you like – there are no exact measurements).

Step 3

Stir until all ingredients are well combined.

The snow should feel moldable, almost like dough, but weightless.  Spread out a table or floor mat for easy clean up and have fun!
