DENVER — Denver Broncos quarterback Peyton Manning set the NFL’s all-time passing touchdown record in the first half of the club’s game against the San Francisco 49ers on Sunday night, on the way to a dominating 42-17 victory.

With his 509th career scoring toss — an 8-yard throw to WR Demaryius Thomas in the second quarter — Manning overtook longtime Green Bay Packers QB Brett Favre on the NFL’s all-time list.

Manning became the eighth player since 1943 to hold the NFL record, doing so in his 246th career regular-season game played, the team said.

By the time the game was over, Manning threw one more TD to bring his career total to 510.

The depleted 49ers, who came into the game missing half a dozen defensive starters, were only briefly in contention. SF quarterback Colin Kaepernick led one impressive touchdown drive in the final two minutes of the first half, but otherwise the offense was stymied.

49ers backup quarterback Blaine Gabbert did manage another touchdown in garbage time, long after many of the first-string players for both sides had left the game.

The win lifts the Broncos to 5-1. They’ll face the San Diego Chargers on Thursday in a game that will determine the leader of the AFC West. The Niners drop to 4-3 heading into a bye week.
