DENVER — Fall arrives September 22 and with the change of seasons, comes the beautiful change of color all over Colorado.

As we head into mid-September, the leaves of our state’s Aspen trees will turn from a lush green to vibrant reds, oranges, and golds.

Peak viewing time is typically the third or fourth week of September through the middle of October. This is dependent on the calendar as the days get shorter and nights get longer. However, trees could peak early if an unexpected cold snap or high winds happen during this time.

Places to go for fall foliage viewing

Front Range: Peak to Peak Highway, Rocky Mountain National Park, Nederland, Evergreen

Northern Mountains: Steamboat, Rabbit Ears Pass

Central Mountains: The Maroon Bells, Aspen, Snowmass, Crested Butte, Breckenridge, Vail, Independence Pass

Southern Mountains: San Juan Skyway, Kebler Pass, Dallas Divide

Western Slope: The Grand Mesa
