DENVER — Gov. John Hickenlooper and Denver Mayor Michael Hancock are among the 17,000 people who have signed up for Bike to Work Day, which will be held Wednesday in the state.

The Denver Regional Council of Governments is expecting 30,000 riders to participate in the event.

“This event is all about encouraging people to try biking to work in a fun, community-oriented, supportive environment,” said Steve Erickson of DRCOG. “We want people to try and see for themselves how easy, fun and healthy this choice is. This year’s event promises to be bigger and better than ever.”

The event will include prizes such as a new bicycle, event tickets and gift cards; events including after-hours and group rides, and farmer’s markets; and more than 195 sponsored food and water stations.

The event is free and includes a free breakfast for those who sign up. It will be held from 6:30-9:30 a.m. and 4:30-9 p.m.
