DENVER — The Denver International Airport announced a new painting exhibition Friday, which displays the work of a local artist who is considered an important 21st-century Colorado painter.

Four paintings by the late Denver-based artist Vance Kirkland, who was also a founding director of the Art School at the University of Denver, will be featured in the airport’s Time and Space exhibition through August, said DIA.

Airport passengers and visitors can view the exhibit in the Airport Office Building lobby gallery, northwest of Ansbacher Hall on level 6, airport officials said.

Of this particular body of work, Kirkland said “The paintings may suggest ideas of time and space. I am trying to paint something I do not know exists in a tangible way. If I am looking at space, who is going to say it never existed; It has existed in my mind.”

DIA added that the paintings are on loan from the Kirkland Museum of Fine and Decorative Art in Denver.
