DENVER –The family of an 11-year-old boy is trying to deal with the tragedy, pain and anger after a hit-and run driver killed him in a busy Denver intersection.
Michael Espinoza was with his cousin after going bowling. They were at Federal Boulevard near Colfax Avenue when a car hit the boy.
Witnesses told police it was going 60 miles per hour. Some also say it was drag racing. The speed limit there is 35 m.p.h.
Michael’s cousin called his mom frantically at about 8:15 Sunday night before police arrived. He asked her for help as he told her someone hit Michael and just left them there by themselves. The boy died at the scene.
A license plate fell off the car that hit him. Police say it was a dark blue Dodge Charger. They traced it and arrested 21-year-0ld Oswaldo Lopez in Aurora late Sunday night.
