DENVER — Southbound I-225 was shut down between 6th and Alameda Avenue after a serious crash Saturday afternoon.

According to Aurora Police, two cars were driving northbound on I-225 at 6th Ave. when they suddenly crossed over the median. One of the cars stopped in the median, and the other became airborne, landing on top of a vehicle in the southbound lane, according to officers.

A total of four cars were involved in the accident.

Three people were taken to the hospital, two with serious but non-life threatening injuries, police said.

Traffic was also reduced to one lane on the northbound side of I-225 for about two hours as crews worked to clean up the accident.

At about 5:35 p.m., The Colorado Department of Transportation tweeted that the highway had reopened.
