WASHINGTON — The Republican-led House Oversight Committee has subpoenaed Health Secretary Kathleen Sebelius as part of its effort to obtain documents and other information about the embattled HealthCare.gov website, a committee spokesman said.
Rep. Darrell Issa had previously requested information about the website and the online rollout of Obamacare, which has been plagued by problems. But committee aides said last week that Sebelius had failed to respond.
A spokesman for the Health and Human Services Department said at that time the initial request came during the government shutdown and was extremely broad but that the agency had reached out to discuss the request and how it could respond.
HealthCare.gov has been riddled with glitches – including long delays, difficulties signing in and incorrect information being relayed to insurance companies – since its debut on October 1.
