Liz McGiffin is an award-winning meteorologist who is excited to join the Pinpoint Weather team. Growing up, Liz and her family would take summer trips to Colorado to escape the heat and humidity, so she already feels at home around her favorite vacation spots!
She grew up in the Kansas City area, received a degree in atmospheric science from the University of Missouri, and has covered TV weather in all four time zones (of the continental US).
As a student at Mizzou, she interned and started her on-air career at one of the local TV stations. Her first full time weather job was as the morning meteorologist in Medford, OR, where she was forecasted for 5 different microclimates and gained experience with mountain and fire weather forecasting. Then, she moved back to Tornado Alley as a meteorologist in Springfield, MO, where she earned her first Emmy. Then, she continued to forecast weather extremes for all seasons in Columbus, OH.
Liz has been actively involved with the American Meteorological society since she was a student. She has served on the student conference planning committee, the Board for Early Career Professionals and the Board on Representation Accessibility Inclusion and Diversity (BRAID). Her passion for inclusion and diversity for everyone in weather, water and climate careers, has led her to positions serving on the AMS Women’s Committee as well as COSMOS (Committee on Spirituality, Multifaith Outreach, and Science).
When she is not forecasting the next big weather maker, you can find her golfing or dancing. Liz grew up dancing at a ballet school and loves that thanks to West Coast Swing dancing, she has a community wherever she is in the world. She is also excited to get out and explore hiking trails and the great restaurants around the Denver area!
