BOULDER, Colo. (KDVR) — A shelter-in-place was issued for a barricaded armed person who was inside a north Boulder home for several hours.
According to the Boulder Police Department, a woman called officers at 8:09 p.m. Monday to report a man outside of her home who was not allowed to be there due to a protection order. The woman told BPD she was not home at the time, but saw the man break in through surveillance footage.
The man barricaded himself inside the home near 17th Street and Yarmouth Avenue in the North Broadway-Holiday neighborhood.
BPD arrived at the home and saw the man inside with what appeared to be a firearm. The suspect was identified as 47-year-old Milton Rodriguez.
After several hours, the Boulder Police SWAT team was activated at 11 p.m., and a shelter-in-place was issued to surrounding homes.
BPD said that during the barricade situation, Rodriguez caused extensive damage to the inside of the home as well as police equipment.
Nearly 12 hours later, Rodriguez finally surrender to police at 8:10 a.m. Tuesday after officers deployed less lethal munitions and a K-9.
Rodriguez was taken into custody on the following charges:
- First-degree burglary
- Felony stalking
- Criminal mischief
- Misdemeanor violation of a protection order
- Misdemeanor resisting arrest
- Obstruction of justice
- Domestic violence
Officers were asking everyone to avoid the area.
