EVERGREEN, Colo. (KDVR) — Firefighters extinguished a house fire in Evergreen on Thursday afternoon that had black smoke visible across the town.

The fire was at a home in the 6500 block of Highway 73, according to Evergreen Fire Rescue. The department tweeted about the fire around 3:20 p.m.

The fire was extinguished and overhaul was underway before 5:30 p.m.

A number of neighbors called 911.

“Fortunately there were a lot of people passing by on the roadway,” Einar Jensen, risk reduction coordinator, for Evergreen Fire Rescue, told FOX31. “The neighbors, they all called 911 and alerted us to this structure fire.”

Jensen said the cold temperatures made conditions a bit trickier for firefighters.

Nobody was home, at the time. No firefighters were hurt.

The official cause has not been determined, but firefighters will be on standby Thursday night.

“Firefighters will be on scene overnight, just to make sure nothing else kicks up,” Jensen said.

Elk Creek, Indian Hills, the Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office and Jefferson County Emergency Management all assisted with the response to the incident.
