The curse of auto correct – it can be frustrating and if you have a smartphone you’ve probably sent a funny mis-corrected message at one point.  Perhaps you need a new keyboard. In this week’s appsolute must segment, we’re taking a look at some of the keyboard replacements for Android smartphones.

Many people don’t know this but on Android you don’t have to use the touchscreen keyboard that comes with your phone.  You can replace it.  Check out this keyboard called “Swype.”  The concept here is never lift your finger off the screen simply swype from one letter to the next and the phone will figure out what word you’re trying to type.  It’s surprisingly  accurate although it will take a few days to get used to it.  I found it much easier to type with one hand using swype.  There’s a free trail — 99 cents to buy the full version.

Swiftkey is another option – it’s focus is on doing a better job at predicting what you’re trying to type.  Here’s what’s cool, it’ll go through your social media accounts, previous text messages and even your email to figure out what words you use, how you phrase things and more.  It used that to more accurately predict what you’re typing.  It also lets you keep your finger on the screen like swype.  Swiftkey also has a free trial, it’s $4 to buy it.  It think it’s worth it, it’s my favorite replacement keyboard on android.

Unfortunately Apple doesn’t allow apps to replace the keyboard on the iPhone so if you don’t like the existing keyboard – tough.
