MEAD, Colo. (KDVR) — Interstate 25 reopened near Mead early Tuesday morning after a big rig driver hauling an excavator crashed into a bridge, killing a woman and hurting her child passenger.
Megan Mirella Arneson, 32, of Loveland was driving a 2011 Honda SUV involved in the crash. She was transported for medical care, but pronounced dead, according to Colorado State Patrol. A child passenger was also in the vehicle and was transported to a hospital.
The crash was reported around 6:06 p.m. along northbound I-25 near Weld County Road 34 at mile marker 246.
The trackhoe crashed into a bridge as the truck driver hauling it passed underneath, the Colorado Department of Transportation said. The trackhoe was left on its side in the middle of northbound I-25. Crews were still working late Monday night to remove it from the roadway.
Inspectors were working Monday night to evaluate the safety of the impacted bridge, CDOT said.
