DENVER — Police say they found bomb-making materials, apparent instructions on how to make bombs, bloody clothes and paperwork from the Department of Corrections when they searched Evan Ebel’s Cadillac.

He’s the man who is suspected of killing Colorado Department of Corrections Director Tom Clements and Domino’s Pizza delivery driver Nathan Leon two days before that.

Ebel died following a wild chase and shootout with Sheriff’s deputies in Texas on Thursday.

Since his death Ebel’s friends, including one former inmate, have discussed the struggles the 28-year-old faced after leaving prison in January.

“He was telling me he was having trouble sleeping, I’ve been through the same thing myself,” said Ryan Pettigrew a former inmate who claimed to continue a relationship with Ebel outside of prison.

Late Tuesday, neighbors confirmed to FOX31 Denver that law enforcement had searched Ebel’s previous home in Commerce City. Sources reported the 28-year-old was also employed at a Denver area law firm thanks to his father’s connections.

Court documents released Tuesday detail everything detectives found when they searched Ebel’s vehicle. Some items were transferred to the El Paso County Sheriff’s Office, which is investigating Clements’ murder.

Other items including a Domino’s “heat wave” bag, a Domino’s pizza box, sunglasses and a mask were transferred to the Denver Police Department, which is investigating Leon’s murder.

Detectives also found “letters from Nate” in the car.

Nathan Leon’s family told FOX31 Denver News that authorities notified them the pizza delivery uniform and carrier found in the suspect’s car are connected to Leon. The family did not know about the “letters from Nate.”

Services for the young man will be held Wednesday at 11 a.m. at Flat Irons Community Church in Lafayette.
