Talya Cunningham joined FOX31 in January of 2022 as anchor of FOX31 News at 4 p.m. and evening reporter.
She comes to the Mile High City from Richmond, Virginia where she was the weekend evening anchor / reporter at the ABC affiliate.
During her four years in the Capital City she covered the governor’s ‘blackface’ scandal, explosive riots in the wake of George Floyd’s murder, deadly tornados, and numerous Confederate statue removals including General Robert E. Lee. Behind the desk, she anchored breaking news and weather coverage including an ice storm that left residents without power and heat for weeks.
Before Richmond, Talya started her journalism career in Charlottesville, Virginia, climbing the ladder. She started behind the scenes in production and editing and quickly moved to morning anchor. She spent four years in Charlottesville and was on the ground during the deadly Unite the Right rally in 2017. The deadly clash over Confederate statues made national headlines and Talya was front and center with non-stop coverage and field anchoring.
Talya strives to get to know her community and share stories that often go untold, especially in underserved areas, and she’s eager to bring that to Colorado. Venturing across the country is another moving adventure for this military child, who’s bounced around the world. Talya’s father is in the Navy and she’s lived in Italy, Puerto Rico, England, and visited numerous other countries, like France, Cyprus, and Greece.
New to the Denver area, Talya is eager to explore the beautiful scenery, visit the hot springs, enjoy professional sporting events, try new coffee shops, and find local eats, especially tacos.
