SANTA FE, N.M. (KDVR) — Actor Alec Baldwin fired a prop gun on set near Santa Fe, killing the film’s director of photography and wounding its director.
The Santa Fe County Sheriff’s Office said the incident was reported Thursday on the set of the film “Rust,” which is in production at the Bonanza Creek Ranch.
“Halyna Hutchins, 42, director of photography and Joel Souza, 48, director, were shot when a prop firearm was discharged by Alec Baldwin, 68, producer and actor,” the Sheriff’s Office wrote in a press release.
“Ms. Hutchins was transported, via helicopter, to University of New Mexico Hospital where she was pronounced dead by medical personnel. Mr. Souza was transported by ambulance to Christus St. Vincent Regional Medical center where he is undergoing treatment for his injuries,” the Sheriff’s Office said.
The Sheriff’s Office said no charges have been filed, but the investigation remains open and active. Witness interviews continue.
