LONGMONT, Colo. (KDVR) — Update 4 p.m. 10/14: The Boulder County Coroner’s office has identified the postal worker killed Wednesday as 33-year-old Jason Schaefer of Longmont.
Update 10:20 a.m. 10/14: The police investigation continued early Thursday morning with Longmont police and the United States Postal Service searching the home of an acquaintance of Devan Schreiner. Police also obtained a search warrant for Schreiner’s car and apartment.
Police are withholding Schreiner’s arrest photo, but will release it as soon as possible. She will be arraigned in court on Tuesday, Oct. 19 at 9:00 a.m.
Update 10:30 p.m. 10/13: Police say the ex-girlfriend of a Longmont mail carrier shot and killed Wednesday has been arrested in the homicide.
Devan Schreiner, 26, has been booked on first-degree murder, according to the Longmont Police Department.
“The Longmont Department of Public Safety wants to assure the community that this was not a random act of violence. This crime appears to be an isolated incident and an act of domestic violence,” the department said in a press release announcing the arrest.
Schreiner was booked at the Longmont Police Department and later transported to the Boulder County jail, police said.
Schreiner’s booking photo was not immediately released as witness interviews are ongoing, police said.
Police continue to encourage anyone who may have witnessed anything or local residents in the area with surveillance cameras to contact Longmont Police Services at 303-651-8501.
Original Story: A postal employee died after being shot multiple times around 12:30 p.m. at Heatherhill Street and Renaissance Drive in the Somerset Meadows subdivision according to the Longmont Police Department.
The suspect is a described as a man wearing dark clothing, a hoodie and blue mask, who left the scene heading south on Renaissance Drive.
Longmont Police Deputy Chief Jeff Satur said at least one witness heard shots but didn’t see the suspect.

“He was well known,” said neighbor Brian Conley. “People liked him. People around here are very upset about it.”
Multiple teams and the K-9 Unit went door to door in the area, and Satur said police believe the suspect has left the area but cannot be 100% sure.
Satur said this type of violence is unusual for Longmont.
“It’s tragic,” said David Rupert, spokesperson for the USPS. “It’s terrible. It hurts all of us very deeply.”
LPD is working with the United States Postal Inspection Services on the active investigation. The USPIS protects USPS facilities, mail and employees. Satur said it is a joint investigation because there could be federal charges.
Police are asking for the public’s help.
“If you have video cameras in that area— that would be incredibly helpful for us,” said Satur.
