DOUGLAS COUNTY, Colo. (KDVR) — South Metro Fire Rescue reported one person was transported to the hospital after a boat capsized in Chatfield Reservoir and 10 people ended up in the water.

Two adults and eight children were in the boat that capsized and all were wearing life jackets, SMFR said.

Officials are still not sure what caused the boat to flip over but surrounding boaters and park rangers pulled the people from the water.

“Any time that you’re on the water, it’s so enjoyable here in Colorado. We just want everyone to be very cognizant that you have to be vigilant on the water at all time … not just for your own safety but for the safety of others,” South Metro Fire Rescue public information officer Kim Spuhler said.

SMFR was called to a water rescue when it was reported four people ended up in the water around 7 p.m.

According to the public information officer, one person required CPR after being rescued from the water but that person’s age was not given.
