DENVER (KDVR) – Denver Public Schools board member Tay Anderson held a press conference on Sunday to deny allegations of sexual assault made by a local chapter of Black Lives Matter on behalf of anonymous women.

BLM5280, the organization that has brought up the sexual-assault allegations against Anderson, has asked Anderson to issue a public apology and seek professional help for the alleged actions. Anderson rebuffed the request.

No legal action has been taken in the matter. A Denver Police Department spokesperson said Saturday they are not aware of any sexual assault reports filed against Anderson.

Anderson tells FOX31 the first time he saw the allegations of sexual abuse was a few days ago when he was scrolling through Twitter.

“I just couldn’t believe what was going on, because it was the first time I heard of it,” Anderson said. “If I have broken the law, then I must be held accountable just like any other citizen. I am not above the law, and that is why I do not currently believe in the processes of admitting to wrong when you don’t even know what you did.”

Anderson is now demanding answers, claiming he’s unaware of any actions of that could have led to the claims and denying all accusations of sexual assault.

“I don’t feel safe being at home. My address has been posted. I have been called racial slurs and very demeaning names,” Anderson said. “I just want to be able to know the truth, and if there is something I did, then of course I would take accountability. I wouldn’t run from it. I just want to know what we are all trying to figure out. I shouldn’t be this afraid.”

Anderson tells FOX31 he’s received multiple death threats since the allegations hit social media.

“I, just like the rest of the Denver community, am waiting for specifics, because I want to know how we can start our restorative process,” Anderson said.

In response to the claims, Denver Public Schools said the fate of elected public officials is in the hands of voters, and they, too, are waiting for more information about the allegations before they take any action.

BLM5280 has not yet responded to FOX31’s requests for further comment and information.
