AURORA, Colo. — Though James Holmes, the suspect in the Aurora movie theater shooting, did not have a concealed weapons license, he did legally purchase all the weapons he used in the shooting.

Holmes’ cache of firearms included a high-powered AR-15 assault rifle and a drum-style magazine clip that allowed the weapon to carry extra ammunition.

In almost every other nation in the world, the AR-15 assault rifle is either illegal or heavily restricted. In the U.S., there are no restrictions against owning this weapon.
