DENVER (KDVR) — Isabella Thallas, the 21-year-old woman shot and killed on Wednesday while she and her boyfriend Darian Simon, were walking their dog, will be laid to rest at Church in the City at 10 a.m. on Wednesday, June 17.

Isabella’s mother, Ana Thallas, requested this information be shared and let all know they are welcome to attend.

According to a probable cause statement, Simon and his girlfriend were walking their dog and he prompted his dog to poop. He told police a man in an apartment yelled at him, saying, “are you going to train your dog or just yell at it?”

Simon also told police that he tried to ignore the suspect, but the suspect proceeded to fire shots, hitting him and his girlfriend, according to the probable cause statement.

Isabella Thallas was killed in the shooting and Simon was taken to the hospital. He remains hospitalized, has had several surgeries and three blood transfusions.

Church in the City is located at 1580 N. Gaylord St., Denver, CO, 80206. Additional details will be given at the service.

Ana Thallas remembers her daughter as a resilient, humble and kind young woman.

“It didn’t matter who you were or what you were. Isabella was there and would support you,” said Thallas.

Thallas says she learned about the shooting in the ballpark neighborhood from news articles. She didn’t realize her daughter was involved until later.

“I kept calling her – nothing. I called her boyfriend – nothing.”

Thallas says she eventually learned her daughter’s boyfriend was at Denver Health but Isabella was not there.

“Then her sister texted me something from the news. A shooting in the ballpark area, one in surgery and one dead. I saw that and I knew. I felt it. I just fell, I couldn’t breathe. It was like somebody had kicked me in my stomach,” said Thallas.

She says she rushed to the crime scene to be with her daughter, and waited until they took her body away.

“Think of your child dying alone without you. That is something no one should ever have to experience in a lifetime. That is not the way it was intended for a parent to bury their baby, especially in such an evil, brutal and heinous act of violence,” said Thallas.

Isabella celebrated her 21st birthday days before the shooting. Thallas says their family is holding on to their faith.

“At the end of the day that’s all you have is your belief and your hope in God. She’s with him and she’s dancing with the angels.”

A GoFundMe is set up to help the family cover funeral expenses.
