BAILEY, Colo.– An 8-year-old Bailey boy who was attacked by a mountain lion on August 21 while playing outside is at home and recovering.

“I want everyone to know, if they want to wrestle a mountain lion, DON’T!” joked Pike Carlson, the 8-year-old. “Because they cheat!”

Carlson was playing with his brother in their backyard when the attack happened.

Two mountain lions were euthanized following the incident.

“Everything worked out the way it did. Or else he [Pike] wouldn’t be here,” explained the boy’s father, Ron Carlson. “Instead of us being here telling the story, we’d be planning a funeral, I think”.

Pike received more than 60 staples to his head and doctors had to reattach his eyeball to his skull so he could see.

Since 1990, there have been 22 mountain lion attacks on people in Colorado, according to CPW. Three of the attacks were fatal, with the most recent fatal attack occurring in 1999.
