LARIMER COUNTY, Colo. — A wildfire burning in the Spring Glade area south of Horsetooth Reservoir forced evacuations Saturday afternoon, but the order was lifted later in the day.

Officials issued a mandatory evacuation for people in the Stout area about 2 p.m. It was lifted at about 7:20 p.m. and crews would work through the night to keep an eye on the fire.

Residents in the Rim Rock area were asked to voluntarily evacuate., according to the Larimer Emergency Telephone Authority.

The Northern Colorado Red Cross set up an evacuation center at Lucile Erwin Middle School (4700 Lucerne Ave. in Loveland).

The fire was estimated at about 371 acres and crews had 87 percent containment by Sunday afternoon.

Smoke from the fire was visible from several miles away.

Fort Collins police said South Taft Hill Road south of Harmony Road was closed because of the fire.

Loveland Fire Rescue said there were firefighters from at least seven agencies on the scene.

The Larimer County Sheriff’s Office said SEAT aircraft were also fighting the fire. Helicopters were getting water from Horsetooth Reservoir and then dropping it on the flames.

Boaters were asked to stay out of the main channel of Horsetooth Reservoir during firefighting operations.
