EAGLE COUNTY, Colo. — A wildfire burning near Ruedi Reservoir is 15 percent contained, a day after it began burning.

The Freeman Fire began near mile marker 17 on Frying Pan Road near Meredith and Thomasville, officials said. It was reported just after 3 p.m. Saturday.

Officials estimate the fire to be at 294 acres as of Sunday night.

The fire is actively burning north of Ruedi Reservoir between the Two by Four and Freeman Creek drainages in fine grass, brush and timber stands, officials said Sunday.

More than 80 personnel and two helicopters are pert of the fire fighting effort.

There are no mandatory evacuations, but the campground at the east end of Ruedi Redervoir was voluntarily evacuated, and homes in the area received a pre-evacuation notice as a precautionary step. There are no road closures.

There have been no injuries reported, and no shelters have been set up.

Multiple agencies are on scene assisting The Basalt and Rural Fire Protection District, including the Pitkin County Sheriff’s Department, Snowmass-Wildcat Fire Protection District, Aspen Fire Protection District, and the Carbondale and Rural Fire Protection District.
